The Animal Justice Party is proud to announce Ashleigh Griffiths as our candidate for Murrumbidgee in the upcoming ACT Legislative Assembly election.
Hi, I'm Ashleigh - your candidate for Murrumbidgee. I was born at right here in Canberra hospital and I have lived in Canberra my whole life. I now study Medical Radiation Science at the University of Canberra.
Growing up in the 'bush capital', I have always felt proud to live in such a beautiful city. However I was devastated learn of the government's annual culling of the eastern Gray Kangaroos in our local reserves. Moreover, that it is illegal to rescue these beautiful creatures in the ACT. As an active member of Save Canberra’s Kangaroos, I know the reality of the yearly slaughter and am determined to protect our native animals by bring an end to the cull.
As an Animal Justice Party candidate, I am led by the core values of kindness and rationality. And as a candidate for Murrumbidgee, I am driven to represent my local community. That's why I am advocating for improved healthcare, including access to affordable mental health and GP visits, as well as better footpath safety, accessible community services, and action to address the high rates of wildlife killed by roadstrike across the ACT.
If elected, I will also legislate a public 'Veticare' system – subsidised vet treatment for low-income earners, pensioners and animal carers. Because all animals deserve the veterinary treatment and care they need.
