Cr Julie Sloan

In October 2020, Julie Sloan was proudly elected as Councillor for Whipstick Ward in the City of Greater Bendigo.

Julie acknowledges the Dja Dja Wurrung People, the traditional custodians of the land that she lives on today, and pay respects to all leaders and Elders.

A lifelong resident of Bendigo, Julie completed nurse training at Northern District School of Nursing, post-graduate studies at La Trobe University, Bendigo, and has worked in community health for 18 years.

Julie cares deeply about protecting animals, promoting community wellbeing, and caring for country. She supports wildlife rescue groups, created Land for Wildlife refuge to protect wildlife and habitat, and has been a Catchment Management Authority Waterwatch volunteer, a member of Jobs Gully Natural Features Reserve action group, and a Watermark Convener with Victorian Women’s Trust.

Julie supports healthy, engaged communities, free from fear and violence. She advocates additional cycling-walking paths in appropriate locations, Forest protection, and Creative Hubs where artists and story-tellers connect us to culture and each other. Julie understands that animals have rights to a cruelty-free life; she supports increased access to desexing, microchipping and rehoming to reduce euthanasia rates and dedicated habitat to help threatened species.

She thinks globally, acts locally, and will be a fantastic representative in local government.
