The Wildlife Act 1975 sets the rules around how people interact with wildlife in Victoria - and it hasn’t been reviewed since it became law more than 45 years ago!
An independent panel is calling on all members of the Victorian community to have their say on what changes to the Act are necessary to establish a modern, best-practice regulatory framework for wildlife on the Engage Victoria website. The issues they're asking for feedback on are listed on a Fact Sheet and discussed in an Issues Paper. By providing feedback, you can help inform recommendations for modernising the current Wildlife Act.
This is your chance to let the Government know what community values and expectations are for wildlife!
There are three ways you can make a submission:
-
Make a general comment using a simple feedback form
- Short on time? Pick one issue and tell them what you think!
-
Provide detailed answers to specific issues that have been outlined
- Give feedback on some or all of the questions outlined in the Issues Paper.
-
Upload a full submission as an attachment
- Submissions from wildlife advocates carry weight. Please consider taking the time to make an extensive submission.
We have produced a supporting document to help you make a submission!
The number of issues affecting wildlife in Victoria can seem overwhelming and it is not necessary to cover everything in your submission. You may feel unsure what to say, or worry that because you are not an ‘expert’ in a particular area your words may not carry enough weight. However, this is a community consultation process and they want to hear what you have to say. Who better to speak up for animals than an AJP Supporter?!
